The South African Mint and Rand Refinery spent 50 years producing the Krugerrand coinage only in the famous gold variant. Though different fractional weights were added to the collection over time, the coins were never offered in a metal other than gold until 2017. The 50th anniversary of the series brought with it commemorative silver and platinum versions, with the silver proving so popular it is now available annually as a beautiful bullion specimen.

Coins with an MS70 certification have full, original mint luster and lack all possible detracting flaws on the design elements and surface area. On the obverse of 2018 1 oz South African Silver Krugerrand Coins is the left-profile portrait of Paul Kruger. Kruger was a long-time military figure and politician in South Africa during the late 19th century. His final public role was that of President of the South African Republic, a title he held until he went into exile in Europe at the end of his life as Great Britain exerted control over the country.
The reverse side of South African Silver Krugerrand Coins includes the Springbok antelope. The nation’s official symbol, this image was updated for Krugerrand coinage in 1984 by Coert Steynberg. Kruger’s effigy on the obverse was last updated in 1984 as well, with the work done by Otto Schultz.
