Goldbacks are a privately issued, voluntary form of local currency produced from a thin layer of 24-karat gold secured between durable polymer layers. Each note contains a precisely measured fractional amount of physical gold and features detailed artwork tied to regional identity. First introduced in Utah, the series has expanded into multiple states, combining the intrinsic value of gold with a functional, exchangeable format. The Idaho Goldback Series continues this expansion, with each denomination reflecting themes connected to the state’s cultural and historical development.

The 2 Idaho Goldback Gold Note contains 1/500 Troy oz of .9999 fine gold and represents one of the smaller denominations within the series. Each note is produced using proprietary vacuum-deposition technology and incorporates advanced security features for authentication. This denomination is designed for smaller fractional use while maintaining consistency in gold content and durability.

Design & Symbolism

The obverse of the 2 Idaho Goldback Gold Note features a figure representing Civitas, depicted through a traditional Basque dancer performing a hoop dance. The design reflects the Basque community in Boise, Idaho. Basque immigrants began arriving in Idaho in the late nineteenth century, initially working in mining and later in sheep herding across the region. Their presence became an established part of Idaho’s agricultural and cultural development, particularly in the Boise area, which maintains one of the largest Basque communities in the United States.

Civitas originates from Roman tradition and represents community, citizenship, and shared civic responsibility. The allegory reflects the concept of individuals functioning within a collective structure built on mutual obligation and identity. The integration of this figure with Idaho’s Basque heritage connects the design to themes of community continuity, cultural preservation, and shared economic contribution.

Each 2 Idaho Goldback Gold Note is presented in new condition in an individual protective sleeve, with multiples of 50 available in bundled format. These notes are interchangeable with other Goldback series issues and offer a fractional gold format suited for both collectors and practical use. The Idaho release continues the expansion of Goldbacks as a physical gold product with defined weight, consistent design, and verifiable security features.
